Changuinola I

The Hydroelectric Power Station of Changuinola I is developed in the district of Changuinola, specifically in the “corregimiento”(small territory division) of Valle de Risco, in the Province of Bocas del Toro, located to the West of Panama.

This project is located within the Protected Area named Bosque Protector Palo Seco-BPPS (a protected forest).

For the development of this project, signed a Contract of Partial Administration, of land usage, with ANAM – Autoridad Nacional del Ambiente (National Environment Authority), to manage an area of 6,215 Hectares within the BPPS.

The BPPS has never been part of the indigenous region Ngöbe nor its attached areas. These lands are property of the Republic of Panama and therefore they are not subject to prescriptions of possessory rights by any Panamanian citizen.
